Modesty Blaise

For the summer 08, the heroin simply is a Comics character: Modesty Blaise, created by Peter O'Donnell in 1963.
In the beginning there was Modesty. Cooler than James Bond, tougher than Mike Hammer. She partnered with one of the cutest sidekicks in fiction, the drop-dead gorgeous Willie Garvin.
Modesty simply... was. An orphan from God knows where, she grew up in a refugee camp and wandered all across the Middle East as a child, picking up super-developed survival skills on the way and running on her later teens an international crime syndicate: The Network (no drugs and prostitution, natch).
What is surprising about Modesty is that she isn't just a tough guy in a woman's body. She has a series of lovers and is also capable of sleeping with someone to get information just like Willie does without making a big deal about it. Not as strong as some of the guys she fights, but she is infinitely more resourceful and sneaky with tactical skills and a will to win.
To her partner, Willie Gavin, she is an idol, something to be protected and cherished. To her, Willie became the friend she could never imagine for herself, somebody who thought like her as if they shared one mind. In our world, to be one's ''soulmate'' is to imply that love follows in the way that men and women love. They were never lovers and perhaps that is the truest love of all.
