Colette
Colette, French author, reflects a unique sense of charm and presence this making her a woman of character. Her strive for freedom and her strong character enabled her to follow her passions and dreams. She contributed massively to women ‘s emancipation in the 1920s and 1930s. Colette was also an extraverted woman able to incarnate many roles including – ‘Pantomime’ at the Music Hall, ‘Pan’ at the Marigny theater, ‘Reve d’Egypte’ at the Moulin Rouge, or even ‘La Chair’ at the Bataclan. In 1912, she becomes journalist at ‘Le Matin’, a French daily journal, and maries its editor in chief, Henry de Jouvenel, who is also her second husband. In 1920, she is named knight in the French Legion of Honor and in 1936, she is promoted commander of the legion. Thanks to her multiple works, she is also attributed a medal from the National Institute of Arts and Letter in 1953, given out by he United States ambassador, Douglas Dill. Colette was not only elegant and gracious, but also had this rare force of nature making her captivating and bewitching. She dies in August 3rd, 1953 but her soul forever stays in the hearts of those who are aware of her remarkable life and works – making her a 20th century icon figure.
